John Lyle Baber, 68 yrs, of Petersburg died Thursday, January 25, 2018, in Flower Hospital, Sylvania, OH. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Monday, January 29, 2018, from 4-8 PM. There will be a service on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 11 AM at Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI. Chaplain Michael Pennington will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.
Born December 8, 1949, in Toledo, OH. John was the son of John C. and Shirley (Ankney) Baber. He graduated from Summerfield High School in 1969. He married Ladona Johnson in August 1969 in Monroe. He worked for GM, Willow Run Assembly for 22 yrs when the plant closed, he then transferred to Toledo Powertrain where he worked until he retired on June 1, 2001. He then drove semi-truck for 8 yrs, which he loved doing.
John was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam from April 1970-June 1971. He was a Charter Member of the Vietnam Veterans, Monroe, Chapter 142, where he served as past: president, vice president, secretary, board of director and newsletter editor. He was also a member of Deerfield American legion, where he served as the adjutant for many years, a member of VFW Post 1138, and the Dundee DAV, where he also served as adjutant.
He loved riding his Harley, traveling, spending time with his family, he loved watching his grandchildren and being with them and especially loved spoiling his dog, Rocky.
He will be loved and missed by his wife, Ladona of 48 yrs, son, Randy (Lisa) Baber, daughter, Jennifer (Wayne) Rusch, brothers, Jim (Rita) Baber, Jeff (Heather) Baber, Brian Baber, step-brother, Jerry Majchszak, step-sister, Diane (Doug) Scavio, grandchildren, Amy Hoffer (Robert Ross), Brooke (Jojo) Campbell, Steven Rusch, Alyssa Baber, Emily, Erica (Jake) , Evan and Evie Diedrich, great-grandchildren, Olivia Opfermann, Ben Pyle, Aubree Campbell, Bubba Campbell, Beatrice Hutton and Cheyenne Ross, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
