Norma Kay Sullins (Robbins)

1937 - 2018

Norma Kay Sullins (Robbins), 80yrs, took Jesus’ hand on July 7, 2018 and went to her eternal home in Heaven. She filled this earth with laughter and song from September 20, 1937 until July 7, 2018. Friends may call at Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Wednesday July 11, 2018, from 2-8 PM and Thursday July 12, 2018 from 9AM until the services at 11 AM. Her daughter Kathleen Skipper-Stong will officiate. Cremation will occur after.

Her life began in Muncie, Indiana with her parents Henry and Mary (Stafford) Robbins. Her father’s job moved the family back and forth between Toledo, OH and Indiana a couple of times. Norma was a 1956 High School graduate. She continued her education at the Flower Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1959. Norma worked at Flower Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1989. She also worked on call at St. Vincent’s Hospital and worked as a Home Care Nurse after retiring.

Norma married James Russell Sullins at Trilby Methodist Church in Toledo on April 3rd 1959 and they brought four children into their home; Cynthia (Tom) Sharp, Kathleen (David) Skipper-Stong, Edward Sullins and John (Cindy) Sullins. Although they divorced in 1978, they remarried on April 3rd 1983 at Trilby Methodist Church, only to divorce a year later - they continued to love each other until Jim passed away on February 16, 1993.

Bowling was a passion of Norma’s! She bowled on two ladies leagues most seasons and a couple’s league with Jim. Norma was the member of a Ladies Bunco Club for 10+ years and was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter’s troop for many years. She also found time to sing with the Sweet Adeline’s and in the choir at Lewis Ave. Baptist Church. Summers were spent at the family cottage boating, fishing, swimming and especially water skiing. Annual trips to Cedar Point were a must for her family and as many extra kids as they could fit into their station wagon.

In later years Norma was an active volunteer at the Hillsdale Senior Center and then at the Monroe Senior Center. She moved into MagnumCare of Monroe in 2014 and was loved and cared for by everyone on staff.

Norma is survived by all four of her children, her sister Linda (Gary) Beadle, six grandchildren Jesse and Paul (Jacqui) Skipper; Jaycob, Angelique, Jaymie and Isaiah Sullins and four great grandchildren Brendan and Jaiden Skipper; Lily and Kenda Farrell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband.

Norma would be so happy to see you wearing your Detroit Tigers apparel when you come to celebrate the life of their #1 Fan.
