Sharon K Miller

1942 - 2019

 

Sharon K Miller 77 yrs, of Adrian, formerly of Monroe, MI, left this earth on Wednesday March 13, 2019, in her residence under the care of Hospice of Lenawee to be in heaven with her heavenly father after a courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born in Monroe, MI to the late Virginia (Boldt) and John Eckel. She was the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Gary Eckel.

 

To cherish her memory she leaves behind her companion Mark Conklin, a sister, Janet Cawood, two brothers, Randolph (Pat) and John (Elaine) Eckel, her 4 children, Rusty (Suwa) Miller, Jeff (Tracy) Miller, Cindy (Steve) Rowe and John Miller, 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (1 more expected).

 

Sharon married Alton Miller September 12, 1959, after 26 years of marriage they were divorced.

 

Sharon hired in at Monroe Auto Equipment on June 12, 1972. She received her high school diploma on June 14, 1972. She graduated from MCCC with an associate’s degree in commerce. Sharon worked for 26 years at Monroe (Tenneco) in various departments including accounts payable, billing and customer service, retiring on December 31, 2004. She worked an additional 6 years at the Monroe Foodtown as a pharmacist's assistant. This job included delivering medication to the homebound.

 

Sharon lived an extraordinary active life. She participated and put together 5 teams for the Corporate Challenges at Tenneco. The company took the first place trophy in two consecutive years. She was a runner and biker in this county wide event. She was part of the Tenneco picnic committee, overseeing the invitations, budget, food and activities. As a member of the MAECO Women's Club, she participated in various charitable events such as Paws for a Cause, back to school sponsorships, and providing food and gifts for needy families at Christmas. She promoted health and wellness sponsoring races at Tenneco including the Strut for Hospice. She put running teams together for the 5k and 10k local races. Tenneco sponsored Sharon to run at the 5k at the Corporate Cup Olympics in Los Angeles, CA. Tenneco teams placed 5th in this nationwide event. Sharon ran 3 marathons, including 2 sponsored by Tenneco in Houston, TX. She completed 3 triathlons, 2 biathlons, a 50 mile run, a team run from Novi to Mackinac City and a 175 mile bike ride from Novi to MSU for MS. Sharon was mentored by her good friend Lou DeMarco. He helped her with speed training and school classes for years.

 

Sharon participated in the MAECO tennis league, woman's softball, the bowling league and golf league. Sharon was an avid hiker, visiting at least 10 states, hiking many National and State parks with her friends Marilyn and Renee. Sharon earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 65 with her friend Velta.

 

Sharon donated time and gifts to Fairview. She painted and decorated a room at the facility. She purchased gifts for 21 occupants at the Philadelphia House. When her granddaughter was teaching in Grand Rapids, she provided gifts for the entire class.

 

In her later years she took harmonica lessons, learned and played pickle ball, did line dancing. She enjoyed casino trips, yoga and garage sales. She enjoyed shopping, finding bargains for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always filled the tree with gifts at Christmas.

 

Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Monday March 18, 2019, from 11 AM until the services at 2 PM. Pastor Deanna Henagan of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Adrian, MI, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakgrove Cemetery Petersburg, MI.
