James Allen Soldwish

1949 - 2019

 

James Allen Soldwish, 69 yrs, of Petersburg, MI, died Sunday February 17, 2019, surrounded by his family under the care of Great Lakes Hospice. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Wednesday February 20, 2019 from 2-8PM. There will be a service at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Thursday February 21, 2019 at 11am. Pastor Mark McCaskill from Cornerstone Baptist Church, Ida, MI, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI. Family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon at the Petersburg VFW following the services.

 

Jim was born on May 2, 1949, in Toledo, OH, to Louis and Alma (Frank) Soldwish. Jim graduated from Summerfield High School in 1967 where he was left tackle and linebacker for Summerfield Football. He worked for The Ford Motor Company, Saline Plant, for 35 yrs, retiring in 2002. He served with the US Army with distinction from 1969 to 1971 in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and two Bronze Stars. He served the country with pride. He continued his service as Commander and as Chaplain of the VFW Post 6509 in Petersburg, MI. He also served as Commander of the American Legion Post 72 in Dundee, MI and as a member of the 40-8. Jim Married Judy Parron on July 11, 1981, in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Petersburg, MI. Jim was captain of the Gentleman's Pool League of VFW Petersburg. He enjoyed hunting and putting on wild game dinners with his friends of the Woodchuck Club. he loved camping, classic cards and could not walk by a Euchre Table without sitting down.

 

He is survived by: his wife, Judy (Parron) of 45 yrs; children, Doug (Mary Jo) Bushroe, Jody (Dawn) Bushroe, Nebra (James) Garmon, Matthew (Nicole) Soldwish; 12 grandchildren, Shyann, Shalynn, Jalen, James, Jacob, Emma, Edyn, Nick, Brendan, Carson, Riley, Macey and a brother Richard (Shirley). he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.
