Edward Barzyk

1933 - 2018


Edward Barzyk died peacefully in his Milford, MI (Brighton Township) home on February 14, surrounded by his wife and all six of their children. Ed lost his 10 yr battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease and was lovingly cared for through his ordeal by his wife Patricia, family, and Residential Hospice of Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 65 yrs and Fordson High School sweetheart, the former Patricia Stankey; his children Michael, Lorraine Moore (Andrew Borin), Ann Kurtis (Douglas Kurtis), Suzanne Dunsmore (Clay Dunsmore), Thomas (Corine Barzyk), and Cynthia Sullivan (Aaron Sullivan); 6 grand-children; 5 great grand-children; and sisters Rose Moratti and Olga Kohn.


Ed was a graduate of Fordson High School, Dearborn, MI and the Ford Motor Co, 4-year metal pattern making apprenticeship program. He was very active in Scouting, becoming an Eagle Scout with Order of the Arrow recognition and served in the Naval Reserve for 9 yrs. Ed and Pat were very active in square dancing and modern western round dancing. They enjoyed traveling and motor home camping throughout the U.S. and visiting various foreign countries. Ed was an avid boater and sailor enjoying many a day traversing the waters of Lake Erie and Michigan’s inland waters. Ed retired from Ford in 1988 after 34 yrs as a metal patternmaker-skilled tradesman at the Ford Rouge and Ford Flat Rock plants, eventually retiring as a supervisor from the Ford Milan plant. Ed really enjoyed spending time with family, reading, gardening, tinkering on their various homesteads including the Monroe farm, and the great outdoors.


Ed was born in Hamtramck and grew up in Dearborn. Ed and Pat married in 1952, established their first home in Dearborn, eventually moving the family to Milford for 10 years, followed by Monroe for 40 years, eventually settling back in Milford since 2014. Ed and Pat were avid parishioners of St. Joseph of Ida (40 yrs) eventually moving to St. Patrick of Brighton.


A private funeral service was held at Capaul’s Funeral Home, Ida, MI. In lieu of any flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of their choice. A celebration of Ed’s life on this earth will be announced at a later date.
