Janice Hildegarde Gotha

1934 - 2018


Janice Hildegarde Gotha, 84, of Ida passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018.  Born March 29, 1934 in Monroe, Janice was the daughter of Leo Victor & Luella Marie (Hoffman) Masserant.  She attended Saint Mary’s Academy of Monroe.  She was married to the love of her life Harold Gotha Jan 7, 1956 and were together for 62 years.


Janice and her husband Harold owned the Ida IGA from 1972 until 1987 when a fire destroyed their business.  During those 15 years it was common to see her working in the produce department.  She also loved to bake cookies during the holiday season and give out platters of them to delivery drivers and customers in the store along with friends and family.


Survivors include: sons, Craig Gotha, Gary (Lori) Gotha, Steven (Kelly) Gotha, daughters, LaRae (Ramon) Barnes, Laura (John) Zemsky, Linda (Chuck) Trombley;  grandkids, Melissa (Jason) Sheppard, Kayla (Ian) Dutcher, Ryan Gotha, Rebecca Gotha, Charles Trombley, Adam Trombley, Eric (Amber) Trombley, Noah Gotha, Hannah Gotha; great grandkids, Ella Dutcher, Ezra Dutcher.  Brother: Jerome Masserant, Sisters: Betty Premoe, Donna Billmaier, Joe Ann Althaver, Judy Hale, Rosie Post.


Preceded in Death: Parents Leo Victor & Luella Masserant, Spouse: Harold Gotha, Sister: Eileen Wright.


Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Wednesday December 5, 2018, from 5 PM until 8 PM.  She will lie in state at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida, MI, Thursday December 6, 2018, 10 AM until the Mass of Resurrection at 11AM. Fr. Gerard Cupple will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ida.
