1931 - 2018


JoAnn Mathis (Brossia), 87 yrs, of Monroe, MI. Died Friday, December 14, 2018, in Cambrian Memory Care, Tecumseh, MI, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. There will be a memorial gathering at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dundee, MI, from 10 AM until the services at 12PM on Saturday January 5, 2019. Pastor Jennifer Kiefer will officiate. Burial of the cremains will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.


Born July 2, 1931 in Monroe, MI. JoAnn was the daughter of Joseph W. and Hazel Mae (Zorn) Brossia. She was a 1949 Ida High School Graduate. She married Robert L. Mathis on August 20, 1949, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Dundee, MI. Robert died January 11, 2012. She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Dundee, MI, Monroe County Extension and St. John's WELCA where she was a past officer. She loved her husband fiercely. Her children, grandchildren and great-children also knew that love. She always had cookies in the freezer, a new recipe to try and a book in hand. Together, she and Robert would travel to many places but many, many memories were made at Black Lake.


Survivors include: sons, Dr. David (Debbie), Mark (Valynda); daughters, Melinda (Rick) Hettinger, Dawn (Andy) Quackenbush, Tina (Matt) Monarch; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Brossia; grandchildren, Dana (Ross), Charlotte, Garrett (Meghan), Erin (Jose), Daniel (Peter), Oliver, Kristen (Josh), Chelsea (Matt), Corey (JD), Joseph (Alexandra), Michael (Corinne), Sarah (Max) and great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, Owen, Nolan, Guenivere, Joshua, Robert, Marian and Dani. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter and sister, Hazel Mae Shields.
