Wilbur Omer Burkett

Wilbur Omer Burkett, 78, of Ida, Michigan passed away in his home under the care of ProMedica Hospice of Monroe. He was born on December 6, 1942, in Monroe, Michigan to Omer Eaton Burkett and Helen Lovina (Strack) Burkett. He married Carolyn Ann Carr on November 26, 1965, in Monroe. They have three sons: Wilbur Omer (Gail) of Adrian, Chad Eric (Karen) of Ida, and Aaron James (Traci) of Monroe. He cherished the time he had with his grandchildren: Dustin (Claudia), Stephanie, Sierra, Savanah, Tanner, Brandi, Delaney, Raven, Dakota, and Brandon. He is survived by one great-grandchild, Ashton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard Burkett, and his granddaughter, Tess.

Wilbur attended Custer/Monroe Public Schools and was a 1961 graduate of Ida High School and a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. He had worked at Hi-Lite Market, Monroe Public Schools, La-Z-Boy Chair Company, and retired from the Monroe County Friend of the Court Office on March 1, 2009. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for the Monroe County Fair. He lived and worked by the Golden Rule and the Ten Commandments giving his life to Jesus on June 2, 2002. He did the best he could to treat everyone the way he wanted to be treated.

He was a member, leader, and supporter of the Monroe County 4-H program from 10 years old until the present. He was a member of the Monroe Antique Car Klub (MACK), Plymouth Owners Club (POC), and the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA). He took extreme delight in he and Carolyn’s fully restored 1939 Plymouth Convertible Coupe that they have owned since 1968. He was also an avid collector of his version of antiques, cars, trucks, memorabilia, and parts. He attended Heritage Baptist Church.

Visitation for Mr. Burkett will be Friday, April 9, 2021, from 10 AM until the services at 11 AM at Heritage Baptist Church, 612 Strasburg Rd. Monroe, MI 48161. Pastor Roy Southerland and Pastor Nate Click will co-celebrate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heritage Baptist Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
