Betty Jean Bliss (Holtz) - 96 years of Ida, MI - died Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at her residence. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 4pm-8pm. She will lie-in-state on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI from 10am until the funeral service commences at 11am. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Lulu Cemetery in Ida, MI. Pastor Victor Holtz will officiate.

Born March 8th,1926 in Ida, MI, Betty was the daughter of Ira and Josephine (Manor) Holtz. She was a 1943 Ida High School graduate. Betty worked at Farm Bureau Insurance, Ida, MI as an Office Manager for 30 years. She also sold cut your own Christmas trees at their family-owned Bliss Nursery for over 50 years. Betty married Marlin "Skip" Bliss on April 18th, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida, MI, where she was a member. Marlin died on December 20th, 2008. Skip and Betty were both charter members of Lynn C. Weeman American Legion Post 514, Ida, MI, where Betty served as the first auxiliary president. She loved to crochet, handing out hundreds of finished dish cloths to family and friends. Along with exercising her hands she loved to assemble jigsaw puzzles and never missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. Skip and Betty spent 70 years taking homegrown produce to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, where they made many lifelong friends.

Survivors include her son David (Dianne) Bliss; daughter Jean Horn; grandchildren Tammy, Laura, Wendi (Ed), Scott (Lisa), Brian (Christina), Kirt (Kristen), Barry, Jason (Amy), Nicholas, Craig (June) and Cassie; along with 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marlin, son Gary, brother John (Betty) Holtz, sisters Nila (Bill) Vanwormer, Lola (Jerry) Scheid and son-in-law Earl Horn.
