Gene Slinker
January 22nd, 1971 - December 1st, 2022
Gene Slinker passed away tragically on December 1st, 2022 at the University of Toledo’s Medical Center, ICU, surrounded by his loving family at age 51. Gene was born on January 22nd, 1971, in Toledo, OH to Martha (Lowry) Slinker and William (Bill) Slinker. He was the second of 3 children and grew up in the country in Petersburg, MI, where he raised and showed dogs and cultivated his love for animals and family. Gene graduated from Summerfield High School in 1990. He worked at Ford Motor Company (Wayne Assembly Plant) for many years, where he made lifelong friendships. He would then medically retire in 2012. Gene was an amazing co-worker, son, brother and friend but his favorite job was being a dad. He has two beautiful daughters (Brittany, 28 and Kirstyn, 25) that he bragged about to anyone that would listen. Gene was never to be seen without his partner in crime, Coco, his boxer/pitbull mix, he adopted from a pitbull rescue in 2017. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, taking care of his animals and hanging out with his friends and family. In Gene's case his best friend was also his family. He and his brother, Mark Slinker, were almost inseparable and spent time together almost everyday. Gene touched many people’s lives while coaching softball, cheering on his girls at sporting events, and being the most fierce friend to anyone he crossed paths with. He was the most selfless man with such a caring heart, who would give his last dollar and the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He will be missed greatly.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Brittany (Mitchel Iott) Slinker, Kirstyn Slinker, Mother, Martha (Lowry) Slinker, Sister, Kim Slinker, Brother, Mark Slinker, Nephews: Mark Slinker, Morgan Slinker, and Monty Slinke, and Girlfriend, Marsha Heimbach. He is preceded in death by his Father, William (Bill) Slinker, uncles, aunts and many dear friends.
A viewing ceremony and memorial service will be held at Capaul’s Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Wednesday, December 7th from 2-7pm with a service following. Upon his wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held in Summerfield, MI following the service.
