Janet Lee (Rigel) Rutter

Janet Lee (Rigel) Rutter peacefully passed away on Sunday December 4th, 2022, at Hampton Manor in Dundee, MI. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Thursday December 8th, 2022, from 2pm-8pm. She will lie-in-state on Friday December 9th, 2022, from 10am until the services at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ida, MI. Father Gerard Cupple will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Joe’s Catholic Cemetery in Ida, MI.

Born August 25th, 1937 – in Dundee, MI – Janet was the daughter of Serge and Alice (Moyer) Rigel. She was a 1955 Dundee High School graduate. Janet married Paul Rutter on October 1st, 1956, in Angola, Indiana. Paul died on May 15th, 2009. She worked at the University of Michigan for 37 years as the Printing Services Production Manager, retiring in 1992. When Janet retired, she stayed busy dedicating her time to charitable groups and organizations: the American Legion Auxiliary as a former president, the Dundee Senior Citizens as a board member and Meals on Wheels volunteer, the Ladies Classic Golf League at the Dundee Golf Course, and the St. Irene Church Council. Janet also helped maintain the family farm in Dundee - in addition - Janet and Paul had a home in Lewiston, MI. Following retirement, Janet and Paul spent their winters in Silver Springs, FL.

Special thanks to the Hampton Manor staff where she resided for the last 2 years and more recently to the Careline Hospice staff who provided excellent care and support to Janet and her family.

Survivors include: her son Michael (Jacquelyn) Rutter, her daughters Pam Rutter and Angie (Matt) Williams, her son-in-law Keith Hicks, her sister-in-law Karen (Dale) Kapp, her grandchildren Amber (Darrell) Howard, Ashley Rutter, Katy Barker, and Jaida Thompson, her great-grandchildren Noah and Kennedy Howard, and several nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and step-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter Paula Rutter Hicks, and siblings Dale Rigel, Wayne Rigel, Carol Kuhn, Lyle Rigel, Ruth Schuler, Sharon Lightfoot, and infant brother David.
