Patricia Ann Hammond
January 12th, 1934 - July 18th, 2022
Patricia Ann Hammond, 88, of Ida, Michigan received her heavenly reward on July 18, 2022. Born January 12th, 1934, in Detroit, MI. Patricia was the daughter of Almon & Alice Doty. She married the love of her life, Lee R. Hammond, on May 1, 1954. Sadly, he preceded her in death in 1996.
Pat was a 1951 graduate of Ida Agricultural Rural School and served as the Class Secretary. For the past 70 years she graciously organized class reunions and liked keeping everyone up to date on the latest news. She attended Nursing school at Parkview Hospital through University of Toledo–Medical College of Ohio. At the age of 14 she started working as a bookkeeper at Ida Hardware. She had a successful career as a Payroll Clerk at Ida Public Schools for 20 years and retired in 1999.
Pat was a longtime member of the Ida United Methodist Church. She was devoted to maintaining an attractive church landscape, baking pineapple upside-down cakes and washing dishes for the turkey dinners. She had been Superintendent of Children’s Sunday School and started the first church nursery. She served as Memorial Chairperson for many years and was involved in the United Methodist Women’s group. She rejoiced in doing God’s work by helping others such as sending monthly, handmade cards to shut ins for 50 yrs. and to college kids for 25 yrs. plus baking cookies and pies to give to others.
She was an avid reader and strongly supported the Friends of the Ida Library and the Ellis Memorial Library. She organized the Ida Library Book Sale for 15 years. She loved gardening and was an expert seamstress who delighted in making things for her grandchildren. For several years, she led a CampFire Girls troop, and was involved with Boy Scouts, Ida Band Boosters, and Ida Athletic Boosters.
Her most cherished times were those spent with her family. Pat is survived by her children, Deacon Michael (Susan) Hammond, Ida; Debi (Robert) Vendittelli, Commerce; Ann (Brad) Peake, Tecumseh; and Gail Hammond (Tony Valentine), Maumee, OH. She has 14 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Veva Newcombe and Carol Trowbridge. She is survived by sisters, Lone Parker, Ida, and Janet (Elvin) Black, Belleville, Brother-in-law Jim (Jan) Hammond, Tecumseh, and Sister-in-law Shirley Hammond, Tecumseh, plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Capaul Funeral Home in Ida on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 1 - 5 pm. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm at the Ida United Methodist Church, Ida, MI.
