Alice Mae Bryson
October 5, 1927 - June 30, 2023
Alice Mae Bryson, 95, of Monroe, died peacefully Friday, June 30 at Fountain View in Monroe.
Alice was born on October 5, 1927 in Grape, MI. to Fred and Elnora (Miller) Panck. She graduated from Dundee High School in 1945 and attended cosmetology school in Monroe. She worked at New York Beauty Salon in Monroe after graduation. She married Calvin Bryson on January 21, 1956 and they had three children. She worked until her second child was born, the choosing to remain at home as a homemaker. Prior to his death in 2006, she cared for her husband during his illness for over three years.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee where she enjoyed her affiliation with Peace Circle. She enjoyed going on Lutheran conventions with her sister and friends in the Circle. Although she never learned to drive, she was happy to help out in any way that was needed.
Alice enjoyed spending time with family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and GG. She adored her grandchildren and later, great grandchildren. She loved to travel, with New Orleans being one of her favorite places. She and Cal were fortunate enough to travel to Houston twice a year to visit their daughter and grandchildren, and upon his death she continued to her travels to Houston.
Alice loved to fish on Lake Erie. She would not eat them or touch them, but found pure pleasure in reeling them in. She also enjoyed watching the Tigers Baseball games. For many years she kept the schedule by her chair and would mark a “W” or “L” after each game. She followed the players and Cabrera was an all time favorite. She enjoyed collecting Tiger items, having many signed balls and bats.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Brenda Keys; son, Paul Bryson; grandchildren, Renee Washington, Patrick (Aissa) Keys, and Andrew (Haley) Keys; and great grandchildren, Brooks Washington, Charlotte, Everly, Grady and Gavin Keys; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cal; son, Tim Bryson; son-in-law, Greg Keys; sister, Dorothy Karm and nephew, Charles Karm Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, from 9 – 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Hively officiating. Burial will follow at Rath Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Capaul Funeral Home.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Fountain View for the loving care given to Alice.
