Dorothy Mae Garst

Dorothy Mae Garst, 95, of Petersburg MI was called up to be with the Lord with her family by her side on March 16, 2023. Dorothy was the daughter of Anna Reichardt and Joseph Steinbrecher. She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1945. She married Orville Lewis Garst on April 28, 1951, and opened Garst L.P. Gas out of their home in 1959. Dorothy was employed by the telephone company for many years until she and Orville opened the gas company. Dorothy was a mother to Rodney (Ann) Garst, Rebecca Garst, Roger (Jacqueline) Garst, Richard Garst, and Ronal (Julia) Garst, and Mother-in-law to Dana Garst whom she is survived by. She was a grandmother to Heather (Michael) Scott, Kendall (Jessica) Garst, Damien (Amber) Rickelmann, Hannah (Tyler) Gilson, Adison (Scott) Szajna, Samantha Garst, Kenna Garst, and Andrew Garst. Dorothy leaves behind 11 great grandchildren; Jake Scott, Lexi Rickelmann, Raelynn Scott, Sebastian Rickelmann, Adalynn Garst, Everleigh and Hayleigh Rickelmann, Jameson Gilson, Landon Garst, and Jackson Gilson. Dorothy loved to play cards and take trips; she traveled to Hawaii with her daughter-in-law Ann and granddaughter Heather, she took trips to Disney with her grandchildren and to many many gas conventions throughout the United States with Orville. She loved to go for drives all over the tri county area, always a passenger and a great co-pilot. She loved to sew, play bunco, and get together with her family. Her side of the family got together bi-annually, once around Christmas time and again in the summer in Tipton, MI at her nephew’s home. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee, MI. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Orville, her parents, and her siblings. She leaves behind a legacy and a loving family.
She will lie-in-state on Saturday March 25, 2023, from 10 AM until the services at 11AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dundee, MI. Pastor Janice Locke will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.
