Norma Jean (Schlump) Longnecker

Norma Jean (Schlump) Longnecker – 79 years of Ida, MI – died Monday May 8, 2023, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, OH.  Friends may call at Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Friday May 12, 2023, from 2pm to 8pm.  She will lie-in-state at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish / St. Joseph Church in Ida, MI, on Saturday May 13, 2023, from 10am until the funeral service at 11am.  Burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery, in Petersburg, MI, immediately following the funeral service.  Father Gerard Cupple will officiate.

Born on December 30, 1943 – in Monroe, MI – Norma was the daughter of Richard and Ruth (Zimmerman) Schlump.  She was a 1961 Ida High School Graduate.  After graduating, Norma was an owner and operator of Village Ceramics for 15 years, retiring in 2003.  She married James Longnecker on June 13, 1964, at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish / St. Joseph Church.  James passed away on May 4, 2014.  When she wasn’t working, Norma was a 4-H leader and helped make chicken dinners for the church.  In addition - she loved ceramics, gardening, reading, painting, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons James Jr. and Dale Longnecker, her daughter Brenda (John) Parrish, her sisters Diane (Bill Ferris) Barkenquest and Karen (John) McNew, her grandchildren Beth, Keegan, Haley (Aaron), Johnny, Jarred (Nicole), Kara, and Shelby, and her great-grandchildren Hank and Violet.  Norma was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
