Lawrence Edward Schadewald
July 28, 1943 - June 20, 2024
Lawrence Edward Schadewald, 80, of Petersburg, Michigan, lived a full life colored by his loving family, friends, faithful dog, Toby, and barn full of projects and collectibles.
Born on July 28, 1943, in Adrian, his early years were spent on the farm in Deerfield, Michigan, where he graduated from high school in 1961 and played football, basketball, and track. On March 30, 1963, Larry married Sharon (Wells) at St. Alphonsus church.
Larry and Sharon operated several businesses, including Schadewald Salvage, L.E. Schadewald & Sons Trucking, an asphalt paving business, and The Space Station Mini-Storage. He also enjoyed boating and driving his family and pets around in his mural-embellished “Trash Man” van.
Always finding ways to be involved, Larry was a member of the Summerfield Volunteer Fire Department, Summerfield School Board, and Petersburg City Council, as well as Little League coach and Summerfield Bulldogs football announcer for 30-plus years. He played an excellent Santa Claus for the Kiwanis Club, enjoyed spending time with friends at the Dundee Hunt Club and was a faithful member of Light of Christ Catholic Church (St. Alphonsus, Deerfield).
Larry loved restoring, collecting, and showing off classic cars, tractors, and Cushman motor scooters. He always had projects going on and could paint, fix, and build just about anything. He and Sharon enjoyed many road trips and traveling with their lifelong friends, including winters in Florida for more than 30 years. Larry loved playing cards, eating baked goods, telling stories, and passing gas. Impressively, he could fall asleep and snore loudly any time of day. Larry’s snores peacefully silenced in the early hours of June 20, 2024.
Larry’s legacy lives on through his wife, Sharon; sister, Barbara (Gary) Murdock; three children, Leanne (Ron) Goodin, Tom (Charlotte) Schadewald, and Chris (Lori) Schadewald; cherished grandchildren, Casey (Callie) Goodin, Taylor Goodin, Tommy Schadewald, Emma & Eva Schadewald and many close friends. Loved ones who have gone before him include his parents, William and Rhea (Shirley), and siblings, Fred, Kenny, and Janet (Wiebusch).
Family and friends may visit Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 3-8pm. Larry will lie-in-state on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 10am until the services at 11am at Light of Christ Catholic Church (St. Alphonsus), Deerfield, MI. Memorial contributions can be made to Light of Christ Catholic Church or Summerfield Volunteer Firefighters Association.
