Mary Lou Custer (Hinkleman)

Mary Lou Custer (Hinkleman) - 95 years of Petersburg, MI - passed away on Sunday June 23, 2024, in Hampton Manor (Dundee, MI). Cremation has taken place. Family and friends may gather at Pleasant View Cemetery (Petersburg, MI) on Friday July 12, 2024, from 10am until the memorial service commences at 11am. Burial of the cremains will take place immediately following the memorial service.

Born May 9, 1929 - in Petersburg, MI - Mary Lou was the daughter of Lawrence and Vera Hinkleman.  She was a 1947 Petersburg High School graduate.  Mary Lou married James Custer on March 19, 1949, and they celebrated their 75th anniversary earlier this year.  She worked at Dana Corporation (Toledo, OH), Purolator Plant (Petersburg, MI), and at Summerfield Elementary Schools as a teacher’s aide. 

Mary Lou was a Godly woman and served the church for many years.  She was a Sunday School Teacher, typed church bulletins, and played the organ at Grace Bible Fellowship (Petersburg, MI) and / or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (Petersburg, MI).  Mary Lou spent most of her life as a homemaker while cooking, baking, and taking care of her family.  She enjoyed making and decorating family birthday cakes, sewing, bowling, playing Yahtzee, traveling, and watching her grandchildren play sports.  Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and was a kind and loving woman with the gift for making people feel special.

Survivors include her husband James Custer, her daughter Connie Boll, her son Gary (Ron Cisneroz) Custer, her sister Diane (Lynn) Crots, her 3 grandchildren Stephanie (John) Eby, Jared (Sara) Boll, and Jenna (Lee) Gable, and her 6 great granddaughters Olivia and Elise Eby, Ella and Avery Boll, and McKenna and Peyton Gable.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Vera Hinkleman and her siblings Kenneth Hinkleman, Shirley Burns, and Kay Pirolli.
